Fern Creek Optimist Soccer Club (FCO Sports) is an independent recreational soccer program and a member in good standing of the Kentucky Youth Soccer Association (KYSA) and US Youth Soccer. We are one of the oldest and largest recreational soccer programs in the state and focus on individual and team skills, player safety, teamwork, sportsmanship and the need for strong academics.

We have Co-Ed (Mixed Teams) at the U6, U8, U10, U12, U14 and High School (U16-U19) age groups.
Cost (for age groups U8- High School) (New Players Only) = $90.00 Soccer Fee + $30.00 Refundable Volunteer Fee + $30.00 Uniform Fee = $150.00
All players get new uniforms (Shirt, Shorts and Socks) every Fall Season. It is your responsibility to keep your uniform from Fall to Spring seasons. A new uniform can be purchased if needed.
U6 registration fee is $90 and includes a jersey.
ONLINE REGISTRATIONS can be completed through our website at www.ferncreekoptimist.org from 07/12/2024 until 08/2/2024 (U6 – U19) for all age groups!!!
Age Determination Date: all youth soccer uses Birth Year date to determine which age group your child plays in. The year begins on January 1st and ends on December 31st. For Recreational Soccer Players:

Players are placed on teams randomly based on birth years. A head coach can choose 1 assistant coach and their children will be on that team, but all other players are randomly assigned to teams. All players from the fall returning in the spring will remain with their fall team (unless you request otherwise) and you will reuse your uniform. It is the player's responsibility to keep their uniform from the fall season or purchase a new one if needed.Teams will be put together in early August for the fall season and early March for the Spring season. Once assigned a team the coaches will contact all players to begin practice. U8-U19 practice twice each week and play a game each Saturday (with an occasional Sunday game). U6 only meets on Saturdays.
The first games of the 2024 Fall Season will be held on August 24th. League games will finish by October 26th.
There is a tournament in Elizabethtown November 2-3 for U10-U19 teams that are interested in registering.
U6 and U8 will begin sessions/games on September 7th. U8 will begin practices the week of August 25th.
U8 will have a tournament at Fern Creek at the end of October.
Playing numbers for age groups.
U6 = 5v5 - no goalie. We will play on 2 small fields behind the concession stand and the garage. This group meets on Saturday mornings only @ 9:00 and runs drills for most of their time. The session ends with game play.
U8 = 6v6 and a goalie, 12 minute quarters, no offsides, no penalty kicks, all fouls are indirect. The game field is next to the concession stand. Maximum roster size is 10 players.
U10 = 7v7, offsides, 25 minute halves, penalty kicks. The game field is the smaller field by the main parking lot. Maximum roster size is 12 players.
U12 = 9v9, 30 minute halves. The game field is past the big field farthest from the parking lot. Maximum roster size is 15 players.
U14 = 11v11, 35 minute halves. They play on the big field by the parking lot. Maximum roster size is 18 players.
U19 = 8v8 and they play on the u12 game field, 35 minute halves, for players born between 2006-2010. Maximum roster size is 14 players.
We will maintain the smallest roster sizes possible to provide ample playing time for all players. This of course is based a lot on the overall number of players at each age group, the number playing on the field and the availability of volunteer Head Coaches.
